NSE International Exchange said on Tuesday it had extended trading to near round-the-clock hours to broaden access for overseas investors.
Here are the details:
* The exchange operator said the longer session took effect on November 2 and extended total market operations to 23 hours and 30 minutes, with trading running from 3:15 a.m. IST to 2:45 a.m. the following day, giving participants access across Asian, European and US market hours.
* "By enabling market access across all time zones, we are providing participants with greater flexibility and strengthening GIFT City's connectivity with global financial markets," said V. Balasubramaniam, MD and CEO of NSE International Exchange.
* NSE International Exchange, set up in 2017 in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) and regulated by the International Financial Services Centres Authority, offers products including stock, index and currency derivatives, depository receipts and global stocks.
* The move is part of a wider push to position GIFT City as India's international finance hub.
* The longer session also depends on technology designed to keep downtime brief.
* NSE International Exchange said its systems can complete maintenance within 3 minutes between sessions and in less than 15 minutes at the end of the day.
* The exchange also said it would keep expanding international access and market infrastructure as it adapts to demand from global participants.
* The move comes over a month after the market debut of the National Stock Exchange of India, ending a decade-long effort to list and becoming one of the world's 10 most valuable publicly traded bourses.
